Princess Half Marathon Weekend Meet-ups

It’s officially Princess Half Marathon month and the list making has begun! I have a list of things to pack, a to-do list, a cruise lists, an itinerary list…the lists go on and on!

PrincessMeetUps Logo[5]

Speaking of lists, something I like to do for each runDisney event I participate in is a complied list of the various meet-ups that are happening around the “world”.  Since runDisney no longer offers unofficial meet-ups, several bloggers and running groups have come together to form meet-ups of their own!

Check it out below and see if you find one (or more) you’re interested in attending!

Please note, these are not ALL of the meet-ups happening throughout Princess Half Marathon weekend. If you would like your meet-up added, please email me at: kren2700@gmail.com and I’d be glad to do so! :0)

Wine & Dine Half Marathon Tips & Meet-Ups

Well, the packing list process began tonight. I have a list for my carry-on, a list for my luggage, and even a list for my night-of-race bag.

Wine & Dine Half Marthon Packing Tips and Meetups

(Yes, that’s a delicious cookies and cream cupcake…I caved, what can I say?)

I posted several packing tips earlier this year, and even a few tips for running your first runDisney race, but wanted to add a few about this race in particular (since it’s a night race and all).
  • If your plans involve the after party, check a bag with things such as baby wipes, extra deodorant, a change of clothes, and a ziplock bag.  I am not a fan of staying in sweaty clothes…and I tend to get chilly after a little while. I don’t want to get sick, so I’m packing a bag with the items listed above and I’m leaving it with my husband for the after party. If you don’t have someone that can carry a bag for you, there is an option to check a bag before the race begins.
  • Changing tents are located after the finish line. I’ve never used them – an Epcot restroom was my changing room in the past. Bring along a ziplock bag for your race clothing.
  • Money for the Food & Wine Festival. Wine & Dine participants will receive a gift card, but if I remember correctly, it’s about $10 which is the cost for roughly two (maybe three if pushing it) items. Word to the wise, bring extra money and don’t check it in your race bag, keep it on you during the race!
Just a few in-flight reminders:
  • Pack your race outfit(s) in a carry-on if your travel involves a flight. I’ve had the opportunity to do this several times and it’s always worked out well.
  • Place GU in the plastic bag with liquids, just incase (if flying).
  • Wear your running shoes on the plane with you (unless you have room in your carry-on…let’s face it, I never do), then change once you reach your destination.
Another topic that’s been on my mind…Meet-Ups. I haven’t heard a lot of information on meet-ups for this Wine & Dine Half Marathon event, so I searched around and found a few.
Please feel free to email me at kren2700@gmail.com if you have any to add to the list!
Despite the fact that there’s no “official” runDisney meet-up for Wine and Dine Half Marathon Weekend, several groups have come together to form meet-ups of their own! If you’re interested, stop by and check one out. Meet-ups are a ton of fun and a great way to meet fellow runDisney enthusiasts!

runDisney & Friends

rundisney

Over the years, I’ve participated in many runDisney events…which means I’ve had the opportunity to meet a lot of you in person! No matter which race we are running (even non-runDisney related ones), it’s our love for Disney that brings us together. I’m sure we all (well, bloggers anyway) have people like this in our lives and I want to introduce you to a few of mine!

Jenn 1

This is Jenn. The morning this photo was taken was from the 2011 Half Marathon - we were both running the Full Marathon that year, but went out to cheer for friends who were running the Half. We’ve run into each other several times since – my husband even made it into one of her race photos from Goofy’s Challenge without even realizing it! Small World, huh? :0) (Don’t even ask about the hat – it was freezing that morning and I woke up with minutes to spare – aka I woke up and was out the door in less than 5 minutes. Mirror, Karen…always check the mirror first.)

Heather (2)

Heather and I have been friends for a while now – but again, it was our love for Disney that brought us together. Since that time, we’ve had countless adventures in races, at the parks, and throughout our home state of Louisiana.

Megan

Megan and I met during the Princess Half Marathon Weekend of 2012 (and have bumped into each other several times since). Can’t wait to see this girl again!!

Lisa

This is Lisa – we planned to meet up prior to the Disneyland Half Marathon Expo and in turn, we endured that craziness together (I think we deserve a medal for that one)!

Pam & Christine

Pam & Christine are always constant sources of encouragement and support! Love these two!!

Jen

Jen and I officially finally met at the Disneyland Half Marathon Expo and have been Wine & Dine planning ever since! Can’t wait for November!!

Mindy

This is Mindy – we met for the first time at a Rock n Roll New Orleans race a few years ago and have run into each other a few times since!

Nicole

Last but not least…my newest marathon buddy, Nicole. We had a wonderful time running Rock n Roll New Orleans together and I can’t wait to see her again! :0)

This list is not complete by any means. I’ve enjoyed meeting and spending time with each and every one of these ladies (along with many others who have stopped to say hi) and I look forward to meeting even more friends in the future!

As a disclaimer, I have to add…internet safety is nothing to play around with so always use caution when planning a meeting with someone. Isn’t it silly I have to say that? Creeps are everywhere, y’all. Be careful.

Now that you know I won’t catfish you, will I see you at Wine & Dine? :P Seriously, I would love to meet you! If you see me, stop and say hi, I love making new friends!

Disney World in February

Last month – oh wait, it’s April now -  try again…

At the end of February (that’s better) my family and I travelled to Orlando, Florida for the Princess Half Marathon weekend and we coupled our trip with a Disney Cruise.

Here’s a few pictures of our land adventures which will be followed up by lots of cruise fun!

1 Magical Express

After we arrived at the Magical Express Transportation Check-In, we were greeted with short lines (score) AND we snagged a spot on the very front row of the bus (that’s never happened before)!

2 Disney World Sign

The best sign, ever!

3 Port Orleans Riverside

The land portion of our trip was spent at Port Orleans Riverside. This resort holds a very dear place in my heart because it’s where Jason and I stayed for our honeymoon! We were placed in Alligator Bayou for the first time and although the area is beautiful, we didn’t like being in the very back corner of the resort. Next time, I’ll know to request a closer building.

4 Earl of Sandwich

We dropped off our luggage and headed to Downtown Disney for lunch!

5 Earl of Sandwich

Earl of Sandwich? You don’t have to ask me twice!

After Downtown Disney, we visited the Expo and spent several hours looking around. Our dinner reservations were for 8 that evening at Ohana, so we were able to catch a bus from the Expo to the Polynesian.

6 Ohana Dinner

Hands down my favorite part of Ohana dinner? This beauty!

On Friday morning, we all ran/walked the 5K and my mom had that crazy incident with her tooth. The remainder of our morning/afternoon was spent in Celebration and I enjoyed walking around the town for the first time. Celebration is such a beautiful, peaceful area – we loved the downtown shops and café.

7 Polynesian Flower

During the afternoon, I attended the Runners Love meet-up at the Polynesian. It was great to meet so many ladies I’ve talked to on twitter/facebook but never actually met in person!

Here’s where my family played an awful trick on me…kind of like “April Fools” but in February.

I received a text from Jason’s friend while at the meet-up, telling me that my mom’s tooth had to be pulled. There wasn’t enough tooth to work with, so they pulled it completely. The text also said that my mom was very upset and didn’t want to talk about it, all she wanted to do was go to her room and stay there. I bought it. Hook, line, and sinker. Immediately, I began texting my friends to pray for my mom. Heather’s mom was worried and upset for my mom all afternoon. As soon as I knew that my family was at Epcot, I left the meet-up to catch up with them there. They were waiting in line for Soarin (we had fast passes) and as I approached my mom, she was holding her hand over her mouth. I asked if they had to do anything to her lip and that’s when she pulled her hand away, revealing a brand new tooth. Needless to say, I was livid. I could NOT believe they thought that was funny.  Writing all of this now, I’m laughing – at the time, not so much. Thankfully, the serenity of Soarin helped calm me down, but I still let Jason’s friend know exactly how I felt when we met back up with him outside. I couldn’t believe my family went along with it all. Now I know to think twice when something doesn’t sound all that believable! As for Heather’s mom? She was mad at Jason and let him know it the next morning before the 10K! Hah!!

8 Garden Grill Mickey

After Soarin, we ate dinner at the Garden Grill.

9 Garden Grill Pluto

10 Epcot Spaceship Earth

We had a few hours to burn before Illuminations, so we rode Spaceship Earth, Test Track, and the boat ride through Mexico.

11 Epcot Mexico

The inside of the Mexico Pavilion is a favorite of mine!

Even though it was late, we snagged a spot on the bridge near Mexico to watch Illuminations.

12 Illuminations

Despite the building in the way, we were able to see most of the show and really enjoyed it! This is second to Wishes as my favorite nighttime show!

13 Illuminations14 Illuminations

After Illuminations, we made our way back to the hotel – another early morning was ahead for the Enchanted 10K!

If you’re interested in reading about the races, click on the runDisney tab at the top of the screen.

What’s the worst prank your family has ever played on you? Watch out! Today is April Fools day!!

Disneyland Half Marathon Weekend Meet-Ups

True to my promise, I’ve had nothing but runDisney on my mind this week – remember “all Disney ‘till Disney”? It’s true! I’ve listened to Disney music in my car, watched a lot of “Walt Disney’s Disneyland” clips while escaping the heat/humidity on the treadmill, and I started setting aside items to pack for our upcoming trip! It’s SO soon, y’all!

If you’re participating in the 2013 Disneyland Half Marathon weekend, chances are a final race information email arrived in your inbox yesterday! (Or if you’re like me…you begged a friend to forward theirs to you…for some reason, I don’t receive runDisney emails!)

Final Instructions
Check out the official runDisney website for further information!

If you’re a part of the Twitter world, I’m sure you saw this tweet by runDisney yesterday….

meetup

If you’ve never participated in a runDisney Meet-Up (like me) and you’ve followed along with many other run Disney Meet-Ups via twitter and social media (like me), then the sight of this tweet probably made your heart race (like mine)!

Apart from the official runDisney Disneyland Half Meet-Up, there’s several other group meet-ups going on throughout the weekend. I’m a planner and I like to have everything organized. I realized as I was trying to keep all of the various meet-up dates/times straight, I was making my brain hurt….so I put together a schedule of various meet-up dates/times and I decided to share it with you!

Please note, these are not ALL of the meet-ups happening throughout the weekend, these are ones I found and put together on my own. If you’d like your meet-up added to this list, please email me at: kren2700@gmail.com and I’d be glad to do so! :0)
