Disney 2021: EPCOT

The timing of the EPCOT day on our most recent February trip worked out perfectly for me, because it gave me plenty of time to run the virtual Princess 5K, then get ready for the parks. With EPCOT opening later in the morning, I wasn't rushed at all. Have I mentioned I kinda loved these "revised" park hours? Cause I kinda did....

So with that, I was able to sleep in a little bit (as opposed to a normal runDisney race weekend), shower, get dressed, meet up with our friends, and still get to EPCOT before the park opened!

And of course, we ordered Joffrey's on the way there! :)

Although it wasn't quite time for the Flower and Garden Festival just yet, there were several topiaries out and about for the occasion!

Our plan for the day was to spend a few hours in Future World, then the remainder of the afternoon/evening/night time in World Showcase, eating around Festival of the Arts.

This plan should have worked out perfectly but I didn't do my research well enough prior to park arrival.

Apparently Test Track is the current "hot commodity" ride in EPCOT and since I didn't realize that, we rode Frozen first with little to no wait...and then we literally waited a little over an hour to ride Test Track. Whomp whomp!

While waiting in line for Test Track, I spotted the all-new "candy cane" wall and had to jump over for a picture.

This wall is in the funniest spot! It's literally between the entrances to the men's and women's restrooms! Oh well, it serves as a cute photo op so it works! :)

I had to laugh at this beautiful portrait, too...Brayden peeping through the table and my husband trying to eat the sunflowers. We make quite the interesting family!

We really did enjoy all of the beautiful photo opportunities throughout EPCOT!

I took this photo just minutes before the bottom fell out of the sky. Since we needed shelter from the rain, we decided to hop inside the Land pavilion and ride Soarin!

The line wasn't terrible - I feel like we waited about 40 minutes or so.

Like a typical Florida rainstorm, the rain was done by the time we were off Soarin.

By this point, everyone was hungry and we decided to begin our tour of eating around World Showcase. I'll share an update of all of the delicious food we tried in the next blog post so this one isn't terribly long.

Another "traditional" photo stop for me is in the Germany pavilion. I talk about this every year at Christmas, but this is where NSYNC sat for an interview in their "Holidays in Concert" Disney Channel special...you know, way back in the day. Well, I've been taking a photo here in this spot on every single Disney trip since! :)

Brayden's shirt was fitting for our afternoon of eating around the world!

We also made sure to take part in the Disney Vacation Club scavenger hunt game. It was fun learning new facts about EPCOT that we otherwise wouldn't have known.

Along the way, I spotted Laura and Jennalyn and we stopped to talk for a few. It was so nice to catch up with them!

To top off our evening, we wandered back over to Future World and a ride on the Seas with Nemo and Friends as well as Spaceship Earth.

I thought it was hilarious what the ride did to our photos with our masks!

No ride on Spaceship Earth is complete with a photo at the Bubblegum wall! :)

We had a really nice day at EPCOT and this actually turned out to be one of my favorite days of our trip. It was nice to relax, walk around, take our time, eat a lot, and just simply enjoy vacation!

Up next: Indulging at Festival of the Arts :)

Vlog: 2018 Walt Disney World 10K

One thing that has helped keep me sane the past few days while being down with the flu is my Disney content from Marathon Weekend! Recapping our trip and the races we ran there has made my time off my feet much more bearable!

Walt Disney World 10K

Today, I'm bringing you a video recap of the Walt Disney World 10K! This race was a ton of fun and I really enjoyed running it with my pal Melissa!

2018 Walt Disney World 10K

Walt Disney World 10K

After a very cold 5K morning, I definitely wasn't looking forward to yet another freezing race start! I've said it before and I'll say it again, the worst part of Dopey Challenge for me was simply getting out of bed, knowing I had to face the cold for several hours before our run was set to begin. I was slightly better prepared this morning, though - I saved my mylar blanket from the day before and had it wrapped around my waist/legs - it was seriously a life saver!

We were appropriately dressed as Anna and Elsa for this 10K and received several funny comments along the course about it being "her" fault for the cold, make it go away, etc!

I waited once again until 4 a.m. to head to the bus stop. Thankfully, the line wasn't near as long as the day before which was great!

Walt Disney World 10K

After arriving at the starting area, I found my running buddy and we made our way to coral C.

Walt Disney World 10K

It honestly felt a little warmer this morning and we were able to bundle up close to the runners in our coral which made a world of difference!

Walt Disney World 10K

Before long, our coral had made it to the start line and we were up and running!

Walt Disney World 10K

Side note - I love the new(ish) digital start signs runDisney had out for both the 5K and the 10K!

I absolutely LOVE the Disney 10K course which leads runners out on the highway for a little while (ok, that's not my favorite part) then through World Showcase, the Boardwalk/Yacht/Beach Resorts, and finally back into EPCOT for the finish!

While out on the highway, we spotted a couple of characters from Bug's Life but decided to skip that line...so when we saw these parade performers with a super short line, we knew we had to stop!

Walt Disney World 10K

Pinocchio was also inside World Showcase, so it was fun saying hi to him!

Walt Disney World 10K

The sun was just starting to rise as we approached the Boardwalk and Crescent Lake. A few similar characters from the 5K were also out (like Vacation Genie), so we decided to skip them.

This dude cracked me up so I had to snap a picture! I'm assuming he was cheering on the Be Our Guest Podcast Lizards? Still hilarious, even though I wasn't an official part of their group! Also along this area, we spotted Lou Mongello from the WDW Radio Podcast - he was out to cheer on his WDW Radio racing team!

Walt Disney World 10K

A fun surprise for us was seeing Duffy in EPCOT! We were a bit of a ways back in line and were told that Duffy was about to go on break - so several people left the line...which meant we got to see him before he left for break! Another fun surprise!

Walt Disney World 10K

A photo with the EPCOT ball was also a must-do!

Walt Disney World 10K

Our final stop of the race was with another set of parade performers! They were standing in the spot where the gospel singers are usually located and they had a super short line, so we had to stop and say hello!

Walt Disney World 10K

We crossed the finish line, got our medals, drinks, and food boxes, then made a bee line for the bus! Although we'd run most of this race, we were both freezing by the time we finished and were ready to warm up!

Walt Disney World 10K

Part 2 of Dopey Challenge, the Walt Disney World 10K was complete! I couldn't comprehend that I still had 39.3 miles to run!

Stay tuned for more from our 2018 WDW Marathon Weekend vacay! Also, if you're interested in Disney vlogs from the remainder of our trip, look to my YouTube channel for updates!  Have a great day!

Vlog: Walt Disney World 5K

As promised, I brought my camera along with me on all of the Marathon Weekend races I recently ran on my quest for the Dopey Challenge medal!

Beginning with the 5K, here's a quick video recap of our time on the course through EPCOT and World Showcase!

(I'm sorry the video is dark - this was my first time to finish a runDisney event when the sun hadn't quite risen all the way yet!)

Countr(ies) with Character

Happy hump day! Today’s Wordless Wednesday is hosted by Deb at Focused on the Magic and the theme is Country…or
Countr(ies) with Character, that is….runDisney style (of course)!

Many runDisney events take place or travel through Epcot, with courses that bring runners directly through World Showcase. I’ve run several of these races in the past and enjoyed stopping for pictures with characters in their respective countries along the way! You can find full recaps of these races here and here.
