Happy November 1st! I hope you all had a safe and Happy Halloween. We had SO much fun this year, especially now since Brayden understands Halloween and the festivities a bit more.
He dressed as Bingo from the Disney Jr show, Puppy Dog Pals (which he has coined "Puppy Duppy Dogs")! We also found this costume at the little Disney Store inside of JC Penney and Brayden loved it.
Brayden loved the dog's costumes...they did not!
Our evening started out early (5 p.m.) due to the threat of heavy rain later on in the night. We began at a local church where they were hosting an event filled with games and jump houses. Brayden's not too much into jump houses yet, so we played a few games, then moved on to the next event.
The amount of popcorn and dum-dums consumed last night was pretty intense!
Despite that, we had so much fun last night!
Our next few events were trunk-or-treats hosted at local churches.
The dino and shark were HUGE hits! Brayden stared at the shark for a few seconds, gave him a high five, then a slow grin came over his face and he said "BABY SHARK"! It was too funny!
After we finished there, we stopped by my mom and dad's house to say hello!
We had a wonderful evening and loved hanging with our little guy! He enjoyed himself so much (especially the suckers) last night!
Around 9 p.m., a crazy storm passed through with the threat of a tornado. Thankfully, we didn't have to relive that one again.
What did the adults do to enjoy Halloween? Well, we took an educational, historical, for-a-good-cause tour that happened in our hometown last weekend!
After visiting plantation homes a few weekends ago, my mind has been consumed with historical things and life in the 1800's. When I read about a local project happening the weekend before Halloween that had to do with historical things around my home town, I immediately knew I wanted to do it!
You see, there's several graveyards here that have been around since the 1800's and have fallen under disrepair. After a "great fire" in 1910, many many hurricanes, flooding, and just normal wear and tear, they were in need of serious fixing up.
Also, the great minds behind this project wanted to give remembrance and honor to those who formed our city. There's a lot of rich history here, and some of that history I never knew about, even living here my entire life.
This event went better than expected (sold out at 600 tickets) and was called the Living History Cemetery Tour.
At our first stop, we met several familiar names to our town - we mainly recognized them because roads and parks were named after them. This was an awesome way to hear their story and how life was like in their time. All of the actors at each site were standing near the grave of the person they were portraying and the monologues were spot on. This seriously was one of the coolest things I've ever done here!
Brayden plays quite often at a park that was named after this lady! I had no clue the story behind "Lock Park" and it was neat being able to put two and two together!
This was a self-driving tour where we drove to four separate graveyards that were only about a mile apart from each other. Each graveyard had about 4-5 characters present.
This guy was a steamboat captain and captivated us with his tale. Out of all the actors, he was my favorite!
This lady portrayed the only woman to ever be executed by the electric chair in the state of Louisiana.
Our final two stops included graveyards where our town founders are resting. It was really neat to hear their tale of how our city became what it is today! If you're interested in seeing video, check out my instagram highlights under the "Louisiana" tab!
When I say this was one of the coolest things I've ever done here, I mean it. This tour was educational, it brought life to our city's founders and important people here, and it helped keep their memory living on. They also raised several thousands of dollars to keep these cemeteries clean and repaired. Everyone on the tour was incredibly respectful of the lives that were resting there and I heard nothing but praise for this event. Having been a first year thing, I think it went off incredibly well!
I hope you all had a great Halloween! Any fun Halloween events take place in your neck of the woods?

2017 Tinker Bell 10K
Up until this point, the Disneyland 10K course was one of my favorite runDisney races. I loved the route and time spent in the parks, the characters, and the atmosphere! After the Tinker Bell Half Marathon Weekend though, the Tinker Bell 10K has now taken over as my favorite runDisney 10K!
Flat Pirate...uhh Karen ready for a grand adventure!
My friend Melissa and I were both on central/east coast time, so we
loved the laid back, later wake-up call, easy to access Disneyland
races. When I told Melissa that we didn't have to wake up until 4 a.m. for this race weekend,
she was so excited!
Getting to the corrals wasn't a difficult process (not like others I read about later)! We left the Disneyland Hotel around 4:45 a.m., passed through security, and were in our corrals shortly after.
Oh yes, and about Melissa's toy knife - we checked with security to make sure it was acceptable before bringing it into the race. According to the rules, as long as it looked like a toy, it was ok...and security agreed, so we were good to go!
We passed the time by taking a few goofy pictures! :)
It was so much fun running a Tinker Bell themed race dressed as Captain Hook and Peter Pan!
Before long, we were off and running!
This race course looped us around and behind Disneyland, then into the parks.
We saw several lost boys that were available for "selfies" (much like the previous day's 5K), which left me wondering if characters would be on this course at all. I'll admit, it left me highly annoyed.
Mile 2 hit and there was still no sign of characters. Don't get me wrong - I came to Disneyland for a fun race weekend with my friend and for the pink Coast to Coast medal...everything else was just icing on the cake. However, I do love seeing characters along the course and stopping for those I like - it's what makes a Disney race a Disney race! I also feel like it's kind of what you pay for with runDisney races but ok...that point could be argued too.
As we continued to loop in and out of the parks, we started watching costumes and pointing out our favorites. This guy happened to see that I was taking a picture and he wanted to be included in it....hehe!
We stopped by the train station and a super nice cast member took our picture. I later noticed that he was wearing a blue "legacy" cast member badge...he sure lived up to it because he really was awesome (we saw him a few more times throughout the weekend).
What's a race with Captain Hook and Peter Pan without a duel?! :)
Side note: If I never hear the song "Following the Leader" from Peter Pan ever again, I'll be 100% ok. I think that song is now burned into my brain!
Random pirate people were also located throughout the parks, yelling random things at runners.
One set of pirates cracked me up - they saw me coming so they started jumping up and down saying "Look! It's the Captain!" Then they asked what they should do as they were confused...so I told them they were doing an awesome job just standing there and shouting at people, and they were like "huh?". It was a funny interaction!
Mile 3 came and so did the first character stop.
Some say this was a "last minute" add in due to the feedback runDisney received from the 5K the day before. Personally, I was just happy to see characters!
The line seemed long but it wasn't anything compared to the line I waited in for Gaston during the PHM in February. Honestly, these lines seemed WAY more manageable vs the lines at the Princess Half Marathon weekend!
We definitely couldn't pass up the first opportunity! It was Captain Hook and Mr. Smee!
Running through the castle was a much different experience in Disneyland, too! Also, instead of running up Main Street, we ran down Main Street!
The next stop was Pirate Donald, so we hopped in line!
So cute!
Up next was California Adventure!
These races were my only chance to "visit" California Adventure during our trip, so I enjoyed taking it all in.
Here's an example of one of those "selfie" spots I mentioned earlier - Peter Pan and Wendy were high up behind a gate and were mostly waving to runners as they passed by. We were also strongly encouraged not to stop for long periods of time. Kinda silly if you as me but ok whatever...
Last but not least were Pirate Chip & Dale just outside of Soarin! We waited maybe 5 minutes in line and were on our way once again.
Cars Land was very neat to see again - and the sun was rising as we passed through which made it extra magical!
After "following the leader" a bit more, we looped out of California Adventure and on to the finish line!
The usual water, powerade, food boxes, and bananas were waiting for us after we crossed the finish line and received our medals.
Although I was super hungry after running this race, I didn't bother with the food box. Instead, I knew that a bin of Mickey waffles were waiting on me! Yes please!
We ended our morning with the best breakfast ever, followed by a picture of us with our medals! :)
As a whole, I really enjoyed this race! I loved the course, the characters, and the overall experience!
Have you ever run the Tinker Bell 10K? What were your thoughts on the race?

Princess Half Marathon Costume 2017
This year, my Princess Half Marathon costume idea did not come as easy to me as it has in the past. It's by far not my most glamorous or fancy costume, nor does it have very many pieces and parts, but I love it!
The idea behind this costume came to me sometime last month. I was debating over costume ideas, even thinking of re-wearing my yellow Belle costume (lame, I know), when the idea for my costume hit me! I could still be "Belle" this year, just in a different form!
That's when the idea behind a Provincial/Town Girl Belle costume was born.
To date, this has been my most difficult costume to piece together. For starters, I just couldn't decide on a costume idea this year. I also realize that the costume itself doesn't have very many parts, but do you know how hard it is to match shades of blue?! For about a month, that blue skirt stayed in my purse and came with me everywhere I went, just in case I happened upon dry fit blue shirts! Unfortunately, it's not a perfect match, but it works.
As I've mentioned before, I like my costumes to be functional, runner friendly, and not cost a large amount of money. I'm also fairly crafty (along with my mom's help), so I'm not scared to bust out a needle and thread or my printer!
So, if you're interested in dressing as Provincial/Town Girl Belle, here's where the pieces of my costume came from....
There you have it...my costume for 2017's Princess Half Marathon! I'm super excited and can't wait to run this Beauty and the Beast themed race dressed as Belle!
If you spot me out there, be sure to say hello! :)

So, if you're interested in dressing as Provincial/Town Girl Belle, here's where the pieces of my costume came from....
- White undershirt - I had this on hand but it would be easy enough to find at any athletic store. (The top is in 2 parts. I like it this way because the short sleeve shirt can be swapped for a long sleeve shirt in case the weather acts crazy.)
- Blue top - this came from WalMart of all places! My mom had to hem the shirt because it was super long on me.
- Sparkle Athletic skirt - I had this on hand and have worn it for several costumes in the past. I also put it on top of a Running Skirts skirt and pinned it in place.
- White apron - I purchased a painters apron from Michaels, then folded it down and hand stitched it in place to make it a waist apron. I was able to use a coupon for 30% off the apron...bonus!
- Compression socks aren't necessary, but I like to run in them. These blue ones are from Legend Compression Wear and I love them!
- Blue bow for the hair - this bow actually came from the bottom of the blue shirt. My mom had to hem the blue shirt because it was super long, so I created a bow out of the extra material! Hey, it matches!
- Accessories - I've seen this particular Belle costume paired with a book, a basket, or both! Check out my runner friendly book here - it weighed in at 2.5 oz so it wasn't bothersome or too heavy!
There you have it...my costume for 2017's Princess Half Marathon! I'm super excited and can't wait to run this Beauty and the Beast themed race dressed as Belle!
