Princess Week Is Here & Plans!

2014 Princess Half Marathon Mickey and Minnie
Source

It’s crazy for me to think its finally here! In the back of my mind, I keep reminding myself of all I have to accomplish before we leave on Thursday and it almost stresses me out. Thankfully, most of my packing is complete (that’s one less thing to worry about)!

This week, I’ve been drinking coffee every morning out of my Princess Half Marathon mug from 2012! I might even hold my pinky up like a Princess while doing so…..or maybe I’m just kidding…

Princess Half Marathon Mug

Coffee just tastes better from a Disney mug! :0)

Princess Half Marathon Costume (2)

This weekend (and last night), my mom and I spent our time putting the finishing touches on my costume for the Half Marathon. I’m so grateful my mom knows how to sew and is willing to help me out with my crazy projects! It all turned out great. I have one final thing to place and it will be complete!

Here’s a piece I made for my costume – I’m just not yet sure where I’m going to put it.

Just one bite, my dear!

Our plans for the weekend include:

Port Orleans Riverside Resort

  • A stay at this beautiful resort, Port Orleans Riverside. This is also where Jason and I  stayed for our Honeymoon, so it holds a special place in my heart. :0)

Dinner Reservations:

  • Ohana
  • Garden Grill
  • Trail’s End
  • Crystal Palace

Our Fast Pass + reservations are complete and we are already checked in to our resort online!  Now I’m praying for a safe trip there and we will be all set!

Oh yes, and one little thing I didn’t mention…

Following the Princess Half Marathon Weekend, we are boarding the Disney Magic for a cruise!

Disney Magic

You can bet I’m going to also run the Castaway Cay 5K, too! I ran it back in 2009 and I’m looking forward to seeing the changes since then (I know there’s been a lot)!

Disclaimer: I have several people watching my house. So you better watch out if you are thinking of doing something crazy….just sayin.

Here’s a few last minute weekend reminders:

  • Princess Half Marathon Meet-ups – Come out and meet up with your favorite runDisney friends! I’m planning on attending the RunnersLove meet-up and crossing my fingers it all works for me to make it there in time!
  • Packing: For travel WITH a flight; for travel WITHOUT a flight. There’s also lots of great packing lists online – Google “Race Packing List” and lots of options appear!

Last but not least, if you’re running Princess, I hope you have a wonderful time in the happiest place on earth! See you soon, Princesses! :D

Are you attending any meet-ups this weekend? If so, which ones?

My Year of Running 2013

What a year 2013 has been! It’s had its ups and downs, but overall it was a great year – I can’t wait to see what 2014 has in store.

I’ll be the first to admit - I don’t actually “do” New Years Resolutions. (GASP!) On the flipside, I DO plan ahead for my races each year (so I guess you could call that a “goal”) and I’m the kind of person who sticks with my goals. If I say I’m going to do something, you can rest assured I’ll do everything in my power to complete that task or goal.

Year In Review

SO, instead of sharing my “New Years Resolutions” with you today, I decided instead to recap on 2013 and My Year of Running, thanks to Miss Zippy!
  • Best race experience?
This one’s tough as I had several GREAT races this year. I really enjoyed running Goofy’s Challenge and Dumbo Double DarerunDisney races are always top of my list.

I’m going to cheat and list two:
-My best Full Marathon experience was Rock n Roll NOLA as I finally broke 5 hours (4 hours, 44 minutes to be exact)
-My best Half Marathon experience was the Disneyland Half Marathon – it was a first for me and a truly memorable race experience!
  • Best run?
The Running Trails through Disney’s EPCOT Resorts – I ran through this area back in October during a quick weekend trip to WDW and had so much fun running the New Balance trails with a friend! I especially enjoyed these trails as they brought back memories of past WDW Full Marathon races.
  • Best new piece of gear?
I know it’s cliché to list these again, but I received several new favorites for Christmas this year (Raw Threads and Mizuno). Another favorite discovery of mine this year was Balega socks. I love all of these things!
  • Best piece of running advice you received?
Don’t take yourself too seriously! If you overthink things, you’ll only stress yourself out. Running is supposed to be fun, relax and enjoy the ride!
  • Most inspirational runner?
There are so many, way too many to name! I do have to say, I was really inspired by the St. Jude runners who fundraised, trained, and were unable to run this year’s race due to cancellation – not a negative word was said by any of the ones I interact with on a regular basis. They remained upbeat, positive, and were happy for the opportunity to help the unfortunate children of St. Jude’s. I can’t say that I would have had the same attitude. I was definitely inspired to look at the “other” side of things, even if our plans don’t always work out the way we think they should. There’s always a reason behind every situation.
  • If you could sum up your year in a couple of words, what would they be?
2013 was a great year - despite loss (here and here), I learned to make the most of the time I have with family and friends. I also worked hard at slowing down, enjoying, and   cherishing every moment.
Race tally for the year:
I’d say I had a pretty great year! What about you? What are your favorite moments from 2013?

Walk in Walt’s Disneyland Footsteps Tour

During our Disneyland “Racecation” this past August, my husband and I too the “Walk In Walt’s Disneyland Footsteps” Tour and we absolutely loved every moment.

Walk In Walt's Footsteps Tour 22

In fact, we loved it so much we both agreed that we would take this tour again if we had the chance.

Yes, this tour is the one that brings guests inside the lobby of Club 33 AND behind the scenes into Walt’s Main Street apartment…but apart from that, this tour is so much more. Come along and you’ll see what I mean…

Walk In Walt's Footsteps Tour 2

Jason and I arrived at Disneyland Park 15 minutes prior to our scheduled tour time as instructed. The check-in kiosk was a small white gazebo, located before City Hall, right after crossing under the train station on the left.

Upon check-in, we were each given a button to wear with our names on them. We were also shown a menu and asked to choose items for our post-tour meal.  Choices included a small variety of sandwiches or salads with chips and fruit as sides. While waiting for the tour to begin, we were seated at a table and were each given a bottle of water as well as a headset for use during the tour.

This tour is set up so guests see Disneyland Park through Walt’s eyes. Along with the tour guide, we also heard various “story-telling” clips through our headsets. I recognized several clips from the documentary, “Walt: The Man Behind The Myth”.

Walk In Walt's Footsteps Tour 4

We began our tour at the train station flag pole, where we heard Walt’s Disneyland dedication speech through our headset. Our tour guide also shared a few stories of the opening day of Disneyland.

The tour continued down Mainstreet, through the castle into Fantasyland.

Walk In Walt's Footsteps Tour 5

Once we arrived in Fantasyland, took a side entrance (aka we skipped the crowds) and hopped onto Peter Pan’s Flight for a ride through Neverland.

Walk In Walt's Footsteps Tour 6

As we continued our journey through the park, we were told several facts about Walt and several “hidden treasures” of Disneyland.

One particular treasure is this Petrified Tree located along the River’s of America. Walt purchased the remains of the tree and gave it to Lillian as a gift for their 31st Wedding Anniversary. Lillian was unsure of what to do with the gift (also known as “Lillian’s Rock”) so she donated it to Disneyland…and it’s been there ever since!

A highlight of this tour is the glimpse inside of Club 33, named because of it’s location on Royal Street in New Orleans Square…33 Royal Street.

The lobby of Club 33 is beautiful and accented with dark wood and deep tones.

Although I’ve seen several versions online, our tour guide informed us that the lift inside of Club 33’s lobby was spotted by Walt at a hotel in France. He asked to purchase the lift and was told no. We know that Walt never liked being told no, so he sent his imagineers to France to take dimensions and photos of the lift – he wanted an exact replica for Disneyland, and that’s what he got in turn!

Our time in the lobby of Club 33 was brief, just long enough for everyone to soak it all in, take pictures, check-in on Facebook/Four Square…. Yeah, I might have done that, too.

Gorgeous stained glass above the door.

After saying goodbye to the Club 33 lobby, we were led to the Adventureland for our own special viewing of the Tiki Room, a Walt original.

Once the Tiki Room attraction was complete, we walked back towards Main Street and into the Disney Gallery.

Walk In Walt's Footsteps Tour 19

This is where the tour became a little emotional for me, as our tour guide told a few stories of the end of Walt’s life. There wasn’t a dry eye in the room as he shared Roy’s final words to Walt, “Well kid, this is the end, I guess…”

The final highlight of our tour was a walk through Walt’s Mainstreet apartment. We were taken behind a wooden gate next to the fire station. Once “backstage”, we were not allowed to take any photographs or recordings. As a matter of fact, we weren’t allowed to take any photos inside Walt’s apartment except one…

Walk In Walt's Footsteps Tour 20

Being inside Walt’s apartment was definitely a highlight of the tour for me. I couldn’t believe I was treading on a piece of Disneyland history, one that so few guests get to see!

A story that was told inside Walt’s apartment was one of the opening day of Disneyland park. Sharon, the Mousketeer was with Walt in his apartment that day. As the gates opened and people began flooding into Disneyland, Sharon noticed a tear rolling down Walt’s cheek. It was in that moment where she truly grasped, she was standing before a man who was watching his dreams come true, right before his very eyes.

Believe it or not, I began crying…yes, again.

After leaving Walt’s apartment, we were seated outside of the gazebo area – our food was ready and waiting on us. Jason and I each ordered the turkey sandwich and chips and were given Mickey sugar cookies for dessert.

Walk In Walt's Footsteps Tour 21

As a final thank you, our tour guide gave each guest a special “tour” commemorative pin.

Walk In Walt's Footsteps Tour 23

The pin unfolds like a story book, similar to the format of the tour!

Walk In Walt's Footsteps Tour 24

Inside is a replica of the dedication plaque of Disneyland and an image of the partners statue.

Overall, I give this tour a 10 out of 10! It was a great tour full of facts and information, we had an awesome tour guide, and we got to see parts of the park we wouldn’t have been able to see otherwise. As a Walt fan, I found the stories insightful and I loved envisioning the park through his eyes.

Having already written recaps for the Disneyland Expo, 10K, and Half Marathon, I’m going to combine our 3 park days into this one post.

We had so much fun in Disneyland and California Adventure!

Friday, August 30, 2013

Prior to the Expo on Friday, we decided to check out Cars Land during California Adventure’s Extra Magic Hours. The massive crowd in line at the gates went straight for Cars Land to ride Radiator Springs Racers.

In total, we waited about 30 minutes to ride – not bad considering wait times creep up during the day!

This little guy sang Happy Birthday to me! It was cute!

I know I mentioned this already, but it’s worth mentioning again. As we were leaving the parks, I met up with a twitter friend for Expo company. We began walking and she said, “Joey Fatone and Sean Astin walked that way…they must have just left the meetup!” I was floored, and as soon as I mustered up enough courage, I approached and asked for a picture.

I could not believe that moment happened and I was walking on cloud 9 for days!
