Merry Christmas 2014

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all of you! :) I hope you’ve had a great day so far and continue to enjoy the Christmas spirit throughout the weekend.

Here’s a cute little survey I saw over on Mindy’s (Road Runner Girl) blog and decided to fill it out, too! Enjoy! :)

Christmas Decor (3)

Egg Nog or hot chocolate?
Both! :)

Does Santa wrap presents or just sit them under the tree?
Santa wrapped presents when I was a child, so we’ve kept that tradition going!

Christmas Decor (30)

Colored lights on tree/house or white?
I’ve always been a fan of white lights. My brother and I would get in arguments over which set belonged on the tree…so we took turns each year.

Do you hang mistletoe?
Of course! :)

Christmas Decor (20)

When do you hang your decorations up?
Well, I usually get antsy and decorations go up a week or two before Thanksgiving. I love Christmas and want to enjoy it for as long as possible!

What is your favorite holiday dish (excluding dessert)
My mom’s sweet potato casserole! It’s delicious!!

Favorite holiday memory as a child?
My brother and I used to have “operation Santa” every year, complete with walkie-talkies and a game plan. Our plan was to try and see Santa, but it never failed…we always fell asleep!

Christmas Decor (17)

What is on your Christmas wish-list?
KT Tape, a Mickey Waffle iron, Alex & Ani, and something shiny” (seriously, that’s what I wrote…haha!)

Do you open a gift on Christmas Eve?
No, never have…I want Christmas to last as looooong as possible!

How do you decorate your Christmas tree?
Mostly Hallmark ornaments that I’ve collected over the years.

Christmas Decor (24)

Snow? Love it or dread it?
I’ve only experienced true snow one time – it was in Oklahoma for a friend’s wedding and it was literally a blizzard. I’ve never had a White Christmas although I do think it would be fun! :)

Real tree or fake tree?
Fake…

Do you remember your favorite gift?
I sure don’t…but each year I’ve received great presents from family and friends so they are all favorite to me!

Christmas Decor (18)

What’s the most important thing about Christmas for you?
Celebrating the true reason of the season, the main reason we celebrate this holiday to begin with – the birth of Christ.

Christmas Decor (10)

What is your favorite holiday dessert?
Reindeer Food…it’s soooo yummy!

What is your favorite tradition?
Watching Christmas Vacation with the family after eating Christmas Dinner.

Which do you prefer, giving or receiving?
I love to give! I always try to think of something special or a meaningful gift – and I love the look on their face when they open their gifts. Makes my heart happy!  :) I also like receiving gifts too, of course…but mostly giving!

Christmas Decor (21)

What is your favorite Christmas song?
Silver Bells – I used to take piano lessons (from my now mother-in-law)…weird, right? Well, we had a Christmas concert one year and that’s the song I requested!  I also like the NSYNC and Plus One Christmas albums and pretty much any song on either one of those!

Christmas Decor (22)

Candy canes, yuck or yum?
LOVE LOVE LOVE! Peppermint is my favorite! The cherry flavored ones are pretty good, too!

Favorite Christmas Movie?
The Holiday and Mickey’s Christmas Carol

Do you have a Christmas morning tradition?
Eating Pumpkin Pie Cinnamon Rolls, opening gifts, and watching the Disney Parks Christmas Day parade!

Christmas Decor (23)
(Snow globe collection from JCPenney on Black Friday since 2000!)

Do you prefer to shop online or at the mall?
The Mall! Black Friday is one of my favorite days of the year!

Christmas Decor (4)

Christmas letter or Christmas card?
Cards…I love sending them out! :) This year, I displayed a Christmas card from each year we’ve been married!

Christmas Card

I pray blessings on you and your family during this Christmas season and throughout the next year!

Have a wonderful Christmas!

Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights

Have no clue what I’m talking about? Well, if you keep scrolling down, you soon will! The Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights is hands down one of my favorite parts of Walt Disney World during the Christmas season! I love to look close at the smaller picture, capture details in the lighting, and find hidden Mickeys throughout the display! Can you guess my absolute favorite part of the Wine & Dine Half Marathon course? Yep, our short run through the Osborne Lights in Hollywood Studios!

These are a must-do for anyone visiting Hollywood Studios during the Holidays. This year, the dates range from November 7 2014 to January 4 2015 and the lights are displayed nightly at 6 p.m.

A few fun facts about the Osborne Lights:

  • 5 million lights
  • 20 snow machines
  • 2,000 gallons of snow fluid a night
  • 43 hidden Mickeys

Today’s post IS a Wordless Wednesday (well, almost)…and is hosted by: Focused on the Magic!
Theme: This Is Really Good!

According to Disney Tourist Blog - In 2011, Jennings Osborne, the creator behind the original light display passed away. In the years since, Walt Disney World has added a nice tribute to him in the form of a lone white angel amongst the angels that circle the globe. A fitting nod to the man who created that shine so brightly on the ‘World. What a special tribute!

Do you like to search for Hidden Mickeys throughout the parks? Have you seen the Osborne Lights in the past?  I hear there’s also a black cat in this display that moves every year, but I’ve only found him one time (several years ago) and didn’t realize he was on the move from year to year!

Light Up The Lake (FitMas Giveaway #2)

This weekend, our city hosted a “Light Up The Lake” event where our Christmas light display and tree were officially switched on for the first time this year! They even had a light switch like the one at the Osborne Lights in Walt Disney World! :)

Light Up The Lake (3)

Before I left home, I couldn’t find Pixie. Where oh where could she be? She was camouflaged on the chair in my bedroom. I literally had to do a double take when I finally found her…silly girl!

Back to the Christmas event – so, the festivities were hosted all day (I missed the Christmas parade…whomp whomp).

Light Up The Lake (4)

Around 5 o'clock, several bands and a few singing groups gave entertainment until it was time to flip the switch on the lights. Even Gumbo the Gator was out to tell us the “Cajun Night Before Christmas”.

Light Up The Lake (5)

Our little festive crew! :)

After the lights came on (sorry, I have no pictures…isn’t that terrible?), we walked over to the water to watch the lighted boat parade and fireworks!

Light Up The Lake (8)

This was a lot of fun – we caught a lot of beads and a bunch of candy!

Light Up The Lake (6)
Light Up The Lake (10)

I spied a few friends on the back of this boat! :)

Light Up The Lake (9)

Lots of people came out for the event!

Light Up The Lake (7)

This was my favorite boat! I loved how Santa and his sleigh were “flying” over the crowd.

Light Up The Lake (2)

The fireworks were a lot of fun to watch! I want to be on a boat out on the water next year…wouldn’t that be a neat view?

Light Up The Lake

A local radio station had trucks at the event  (playing Christmas music) so we could listen along while the fireworks were popping.

The only downer of the day - I was bummed because I missed Santa’s Hot Chocolate 5K that morning. How on earth didn’t I know about a Christmas 5K in my own hometown?? I have no clue…. Seriously, I was so bummed out when I found out about it after the fact. Oh well. Definitely next year! :)

Anyway, we all had a great time together at the event and enjoyed seafood for dinner afterwards! I’m already looking forward to next year! :)

Does your town hold any special Christmas events?
