Bike!

Taking a break (Karen’s definition): Not running - Cross training, doing other things that does not include running to keep my level of fitness up.

The words “taking a break” have never been in my vocabulary besides the time I broke my foot while playing softball two summers ago.

Anyway, I decided to take it easy after the New Orleans Marathon. Running on an injury only makes it worse and I want my knee/leg to heal. I bought a bike back in January to cross train with and that bike has really gotten some use! I also experimented with new shoes so we’ll see how that turns out!

Since New Orleans (March 4th), I’ve probably only run a total of 15 miles and that’s just fine with me. I bike a lot more often now. I also attempted to ride a few miles really hard on the bike, then run a mile – OH MY GOSH I have no idea how tri-athletes do it!! I felt as if I was going to fall over for at least half of that mile! Besides bike riding, I’ve been doing a lot of videos and weights at home.

Saturday, when I heard that a few of my friends from my running group were running 14 miles, I had a bright idea! I knew that covering 14 miles on foot was a bad idea…but what about riding them? I could bring my BIKE! I text them to make sure it was ok and they agreed! YAY!

Our Saturday route took us to River Road….a gorgeous area that I love to run when the mosquitoes are not out! Lucky for us, Saturday morning was not bad!

I love love love this route because I love love love watching the sunrise over the water!! Gorgeous!

We saw quite a bit of wildlife on our route including birds and crabs. Heather commented that she always wanted to see a Gator and I’m not kidding you – we looked up and there he was!

Just lazily floating along in the water!

Good old Southwest Louisiana for you….we have gators and snakes and bears…oh my! Ok kidding about the bears…at least I think I’m kidding about the bears!

We also passed this so I had to take a picture:

These signs are ALL OVER TOWN. Josh Ledet is an American Idol top contestant this year. He’s from my town and it’s all anyone can talk about. I’m telling you, if he makes it all the way and American Idol comes for a hometown concert, I’m so going….. hehe!

Back at our starting point, these geese were mesmerized by their reflection in the truck! Too funny!

Heather and Andrea ran 14 while I biked. They joked that I was their “pacer”. Heather killed it with her time. Makes me sad I wasn’t running with her but that’s ok! We had a lot of fun!

Andrea ran her very first 14 mile run! I was super proud of her and she did a great job!!

We had a lot of fun on Saturday and I felt great after my bike ride. I wasn’t riding “hard”, but Heather kept a super beast pace so it definitely kept me moving!

Until running becomes an option again, I will cycle until my heart’s content! :0)

Have a fabulous day!

Old Navy Bottoms Bonanza Sample and Share

Crowdtap….I’m sure you’ve heard me talk about this nifty little website……and if you haven’t heard me talk about it, then go over and check it out! I was introduced to Crowdtap a while back by a blogger friend of mine and I love it!!

Old Navy is a brand that partners with Crowdtap and occasionally gives its followers a chance to participate in a Sample and Share.

I was chosen for the Bottoms Bonanza Sample and Share (sweet!) where myself and three friends each received a free “bottom” of our choice and a free pair of shoes!! (LUCKY!)

The date for our Sample and Share was flexible, so I got together with three of my friends and we agreed on a date/time that we could all meet together to partake in the fun!

 IMG_5778

We had a hard time deciding what to choose! Instead, we loaded our arms up and brought it all to the dressing room!

IMG_5781 IMG_5783

Lots of bottoms! Skirts, Capris, Shorts, Jeans, Dress pants…..the decisions were hard to make!! I finally landed a decision with the jean capris, even though I really really loved a pair of linen capris as well (not pictured here).

 IMG_5785  IMG_5797

Why am I wearing that top in all of the pictures? I fell in love with it, that’s why! In the end, I decided to buy it! :0)

IMG_5793

Great friends, lots of fun, awesome clothes!!

After we decided on what bottoms to wear, we began the hunt for shoes!

 IMG_5777

I had a feeling that Heather would pick a pair of these shoes! They had her name written all over them! :0)

IMG_5798

Too much fun with flip flops!

IMG_5799 IMG_5801

Here came my dilemma: I’m all about getting the most for my money. So, when given the choice between a free pair of $10 flip flops vs a free pair of $30 dress shoes, well, I think that one is a no-brainer.

My bargaining points:

-I don’t own anything like these shoes. I’ve always wanted a pair of wedges so why not!
-The shoes are black – I can wear them with a lot most of my dress clothes.
-They are super comfortable.
-My husband approved of them via text messaging.

SOLD!

Lots of decisions!

We also had fun tweeting about our shopping experience!

As we were walking toward checkout, I realized that I had Old Navy Super C-A-S-H in my purse! I received my super cash bucks from a purchase I made a few weeks prior (yes, I love Old Navy). My cash was good for $20 off a $40 purchase. Not too shabby.

Remember those linen capris I mentioned? Well, they just happened to be on sale for…oh…yeah….$20. That cute top I fell in love with? Also….yeah……$20! You can do the math….$20+$20=$40 which also equals $20 off my purchase!

IMG_5790

Not only did I receive a pair of jean capris and a pair of black wedges for FREE (a $60 total savings), I also received $20 off my $40 purchase for the navy blue top and the linen capris!

IMG_5806

I felt like a super coupon queen! I saved $80 and only spent $23….which made for one super happy Old Navy Crowdtapper!! :D
