Fitness Friday–11/15

Happy Friday! I hope you’ve all had a great week and are ready to enjoy your weekend!

First things first…the really good news!

Last Thursday (as in a week ago), I had a spot removed below my collar bone. It wasn’t a mole, it wasn’t a freckle, I had no clue what it was…and for two months, this little bump (dark in color) stayed on my skin.

I finally called a dermatologist to remove it (I figured she would just dig it out…gross, I know. Originally, I thought it was a blackhead). The derm looked at it and decided she needed to take a punch biopsy to send off for results. Lordy.

I even received my first set of stitches from the whole ordeal!

Here’s where my crazy oncology nurse brain came into play. (Get ready to laugh!)  Remember that reallllly bad sunburn I had this past Spring? I will never forget to wear sunscreen ever again, and its still haunting me. However, since the spot that was removed wasn’t a mole, I didn’t think the path would return as melanoma but I couldn’t be sure.

The report took almost 7 days to return and throughout the week at work, I saw lots of skin cancer path reports that only took 2 days to result. (I’m not gonna lie, that freaked me out.)

Also, the day she removed the lesion, I began severely itching  on the palms of my hands, the sides of my feet, my arms, legs…it was SO strange. I determined that the report might say I had lymphoma because a sign of lymphoma is itching, and I do have a palpable lymph node in my neck (the lymph node has been checked and gone through ultrasound and it’s nothing). I’m totally rolling my eyes at myself right now. You know what the itching was caused from? The DIAL Antibacterial SOAP she wanted me to use because of the stitches! It took this genius a whole 2 days to figure that one out. When I stopped using the soap, the itching stopped. Good one, Karen…

As the week went on, I began to calm down a bit. Finally, I heard back that the lesion was only a benign cyst. Whew.

I think the main thing that freaked me out was the timing of the report. When it wasn’t ready by Monday, that’s when the stress really set in.

What a week. You might think I’m a little crazy, but if you could see the things I do on a daily basis at work, you would completely understand.

Now that you think I’m a complete lunatic, here’s my week of fitness!

Last but not least, we enjoyed Ooey Gooey Toffee Cake at work yesterday! I baked it to celebrate Rad Tech Week (a week late) with a few co-workers. A little slice of the happiest place on earth….sure makes me happy! :0)

I hope you have a great weekend! What’s in store for you? Any fun plans?

  1. No big plans for me this weekend, but I am envious of that ooey gooey toffee cake. Actually, I am shopping for my Angel Tree children (always do this early) and I have a small sewing project too! Have a great weekend!

  3. Glad to hear everything is okay Health wise! Congrats on your 10K PR.
It's funny to think that it snows where you are. I always figured LA to be too far down South!

    1. Thank you! :0) I was being a bit silly about the snow...that was just frost on the ground. Although, it did snow enough here once for me to make a decent sized snowman! I was 5 years old, I think... Haha!

  4. So glad you are ok! I panic about medical things too! I'm sure working where you work makes it hard not to expect the worst. Have a great weekend! I have no plans and I'm looking forward to it lol!

  7. Glad you're ok! I'm just like you and worry myself sick over every little spot. In fact, I went to my derm last week after convincing myself a mole had grown...and she sent me home with all my parts still intact saying I was just fine. Phew!
