Fitness Friday - 1/3

It’s the first Fitness Friday of the new year! I can hardly believe it. 2013 was a jam packed year (mostly) filled with fun and exciting things…I can’t wait to see what 2014 has in store!

FitnessFriday

Currently training for:
-Rock N Roll New Orleans Marathon – February 2, 2013, Louisiana
-Glass Slipper Challenge, Princess Half Marathon Weekend – February 22 & 23, Walt Disney World

Saturday – 10 miles with Heather
Sunday – Rest Day
Monday – 3 miles with Madalynn
Tuesday – Squats/Lunges
Wednesday – 5 mile run
Thursday – Squats/Lunges
Friday – 1 mile run (I’ll explain below); Squats/Lunges

Even though my blog’s Fitness Friday goes from Saturday to Friday, my running week actually consists of Sunday-Saturday. Confusing, yes? Sorry…

I’m running 21 miles on Saturday in preparation fro Rock and Roll NOLA. In order to reach 30 miles for the week, I have to add 1 mile today. I’m a little OCD and if I’m going to be at 29 miles, why not make it 30? Does that make me a little crazy? Yes…I know. Smile with tongue out

Running with Dog

On Monday, Madalynn and I ran 3 miles around our neighborhood loop. It was a good run and she was pushing for 3 miles when fireworks boomed ahead of us. Thankfully, we were almost to our driveway. She took off running and turned the corner so fast, she ran me into the mailbox…whoops! Thankfully it’s NOT a brick mailbox like we originally wanted! Madalynn was a rescue and my friend who found her thinks she was on her own in the woods for about a month, so she gets spooked incredibly easy. Needless to say, Maddie finished her run at 2.5 miles and I continued on to 3.

Wednesday, I decided to start the new year with a 5 mile run, 5 miles for my 5th Full Marathon next month.

5 Mile Training Run5 Miles

I said I wasn’t going to run a Full Marathon this year (right now, I don’t actually remember WHY I said that)…but I couldn’t help myself and I decided to go for it anyway. Thankfully I kept up my Half Marathon base mileage so adding on a few longer runs hasn’t been a problem thus far.

We have a joke in our running group – a girl in our group named Christy  had surgery a few years ago, didn’t train for New Orleans basically at all, came out and ran a 21 mile training run, then ran the Full in NOLA. It wasn’t her first Full and it was a joke that she was running “on experience alone”….not really recommended but hey…she finished!

When I told my coach my plans for New Orleans a few weeks ago, she first told me I was crazy, then she told me I was running it “Christy Style”. (Not really, but it’s still funny to think it!)  Thankfully, I HAVE kept up my base mileage – although I’ve only run 1 long run over 13 miles since January (which will change to two after Saturday)…whoops.

I’m not going into New Orleans with lofty goals…although I would like a PR even if it’s just by a few minutes! Last year I was coming off really high mileage with Goofy so with my lack of longer runs this year, we will just have to see!

Ok I’ve rambled on and on long enough! I leave you with this because it makes me giggle…

Wrong Door

I hope you have a fantastic weekend! I began the process of taking down my Christmas decorations last night…which is always a little depressing. It’s SO nice to have a clean, less cluttered house after it’s all said and done, though! Yesterday, all of the “extras” came down, today I’ll work on the trees.

What’s your plans for the weekend? Have you ever run a race you didn’t train well for?

  3. Good luck with your longer runs! Are you going to attend any of the blogger meet ups during PHM weekend? There is one on Friday at the Poly pool bar @ 3:00 and I think there is another one somewhere but I can't remember where.

  5. Lately I feel like all my races I have not trained well for. That is why after NoLa I don't have any other races scheduled and am just going to focus on getting healthy.

    1. Thanks so much, Jewell! I understand about cleaning the house - mine begins to feel cluttered after a while and I feel like I can finally breathe once all of the decorations are safely put away!
