Friday Five

Happy Friday! It's so great to see another weekend, especially since most of last weekend was spent in bed for me, but more on that later.

We've had some fun things happening around here this week, so I thought I would share them in a Friday Five format!

#1-The Weather

Have you seen those memes going around about fall in the south? They say things like "oh yay it's fall - let's get out the pumpkin spice and scarves and boots...just kidding we live in the south, it's basically like summer but with lots of orange." Yeah, that's 100% life for real. Well, it began yesterday, but we've officially had our first cool snap of the season! When I walked outside yesterday morning, I was shocked to feel the cool breeze - the temps were in the 60's and it was glorious. Of course it warmed up to the mid 80's by the time the sun came out, but we won't discuss that.

Also, we might have made our first pot of gumbo last night! It was delicious!! Gumbo and cool weather are synonymous down here in southwest Louisiana!

#2-Superhero Commercial

On Monday afternoon, I met up with a group from our church to shoot a commercial for our church news segment. At the end of the month on the Sunday before Halloween, we always throw a big "Superhero Sunday" shindig where kids dress up as their favorite superhero (which could be anyone that you "look up" to) and it's always a fun time.

To promote this event, we made a commercial for our Sunday church news. They had me dress as Wonder Woman and I had to run all over the place which was lots of fun of course.

I can't wait to see how it turned out!

#3-Workouts

Sadly, I spent the entire weekend in bed due to a stomach virus and fever. I seriously felt the same way I did back in January when I was diagnosed with the flu...and the fatigue lingered for days. Yuck. Needless to say, I did not have a long run on Saturday and didn't really return to Orangetheory until Tuesday. Running around on Monday for the commercial was as much as I could stand, so I decided to wait until Tuesday to resume my workouts. Both Tuesday and Thursday workouts this week were great! I also plan on running a long run tomorrow morning in the (hopefully) cooler weather!

#4-Police

This week, the local PD visited Brayden's Mother's Day Out program where they had the chance to see an officer in uniform, check out their motorcycle with the lights on, and crawl through the backseat of their unit. I had my brother (who is also in law enforcement) send a picture of himself in uniform to me so I could show it to Brayden and make that "personal" connection to what these guys do. Brayden was a little hesitant with the officer presentation at first but once the MDO director told Brayden that this officer wears a uniform just like his Uncle Brian, he was ok!

He was so very proud of his little badge and hat! I love opportunities like this where they get to see professionals and hear what they do.

#5-Pumpkin Patch

It's that time of year again! Pumpkin patches are popping up everywhere and we've already visited one! Brayden had so much fun calling out the different colors of the pumpkins he saw and running throughout the patch! We even came home with a little pumpkin as a memory! :) Sadly, the memory card inside of my DSLR camera decided to corrupt and won't allow me to even see any of the pictures I took there (which just means we will have to go back for more). Thankfully, I have the pictures I took on my phone!

Superbowl Weekend 2016

Happy Monday!

This weekend flew by yet again...which means we are another week closer to meeting our little boy! Although Jason worked this weekend, I still made good use of my time and attempted to get a few things accomplished around the house. Staying off my feet as much as possible was a must, so I definitely had to take frequent breaks.

The cooler temps here also made me miss my usual Saturday long run. The weekends seem much longer too, now that they aren't filled with one activity after another. Oh well...I'm attempting to soak up the down time as best I can! Before long, life will be a flurry of activity once again! :)

Saturday morning began with a slice of King Cake in celebration of Mardi Gras! When in Louisiana... :)

On Saturday afternoon, I attended a birthday party for one of my best friend's kids. He turned 10 and had his party on board a WWII battleship!  Right now, they use the ship for laser tag parties and it looks like so much fun!

The ship was neat to explore! I actually want to go back and hear the history behind the ship, how they lived, etc. Really cool!

From the ship, I also had a chance to admire the sunset over my beloved running lake. I absolutely cannot wait to get back out there and hit the pavement again on early mornings...one day soon!

We had dinner with my parents on Saturday night, then they came over and helped us move a little furniture around. The baby's room is slowly getting there!

The bed/dresser/glider will be set up next weekend. Can't wait to see it all come together!

On Sunday morning, I met up with my friend Heather and her parents for a little coffee as they drove home from Texas. (I had a King Cake latte, of course!)

It was great to see them, catch up, and visit for a while! 

Pixie helped me make Gumbo and potato salad for the Superbowl on Sunday night.  I finished making everything about an hour before the game and was happy with my accomplishment. Once everyone arrived and we were getting ready to eat, I realized I did something incredibly dumb...I FORGOT to make the rice. Pregnancy brain, y'all...it's no joke!

No harm done...we watched some of the game while making rice and all was well! Everything turned out delicious, too!

Halloween Weekend 2015

As mentioned in yesterday's post, Halloween weekend was wet, muggy, nasty, rainy, and humid. All. Weekend.

It didn't stop us from having fun, though!

On Friday, we all wore Halloween shirts to work!

I ordered mine off Etsy several weeks ago..

Coworkers! :)

One of our patients also brought us a huge basket of candy! Inside were these fireballs, which totally brought me straight back to my middle school years at the skating rink!

After my run on Saturday, I stayed home all day, relaxed, and finished some work for our upcoming girls honors night (which falls the day after I get back from vacation)! 

A friend of mine posted a picture of his pot of gumbo on facebook...which of course made me hungry for it, too! Yum!

 
The pups waited and waited for trick or treaters who never came...sad times.

They discussed moving trick or treating to Friday, but never did for some reason. Several churches did move their events to Friday night which worked out well!

I'm pretty sure my little Yoda was plotting ways to get me back here...

 My furbabies! Next year, I'll have another little one to dress up in costume! :)

Oh yes, and about that gumbo...it was delicious! 

Hello November 1st...officially Christmas music and peppermint mocha time! 

Sunday morning was also Superhero Sunday at children's church! We had so much fun with it and loved seeing all of the kids dressed as their favorite super heros!

Here's pregnancy brain at it's finest....I know that Snow White wears a yellow skirt - I even wore this costume for the Princess Half Marathon several years ago. Why on earth did I put on a red skirt? Heaven only knows! My poor brain.

One of my favorite superhero kids costumes was a little boy who dressed like his favorite Braves 2nd baseman, Jace Peterson! I just think that's so flattering and I loved it! Jace was raised in our church and comes home in the off season - and as an added bonus, he was there Sunday morning and the little boy had the opportunity to meet him! I love it when stuff like that works out!
