NYC & Canada Day #1: Exploring New York

Following our GORGEOUS day in Halifax, we were met with this sight:

Rain.

Not just any rain, friends. No, this rain was the remnants of Hurricane Isaac.

I left my hometown for this vacation just a few short days after Hurricane Isaac passed through (thankfully it was not bad AT ALL), then met up with him again in Saint John. Just my luck.

After breakfast, we joined our tour group in the Walt Disney Theater, then made our way through the Pier to our tour bus!

A neat fact: We were the very first cruise ship to disembark at the brand new Diamond Jubilee Cruise Terminal! You could feel the excitement in the air!

Each lady leaving the terminal received a rose and each man received a Saint John pin. :0)

Our tour bus for the day was the Saint John Sea Dogs team bus!

First stop:  The Bay of Fundy at low tide

 DSC_0976

The Bay has the highest tides in the world – at this point, the tides were at their lowest point of the day.

We originally booked the train excursion
(see train on the bridge?)……

….then I cancelled it after reading awful reviews online! I was very grateful for the reviews! So there you go, reading reviews can make a world of difference!

I love this house!

At low tide, a lot of the boats were on the bottom of the sea floor!

Next stop: Lunch! A yummy Seafood Chowder! :0)

After lunch, we walked around on the beach and looked for wishing rocks!

DSC_1043

A wishing rock is one where a line makes a complete circle around the rock. Jason found one!

After leaving the beach, we returned to see tide slowly coming in! A few of the boats were no longer on the bottom of the sea floor.

We also stopped to see one of the few remaining covered bridges in the world! In the distance, you can see a 2nd covered bridge as well….

During our potty break, I climbed to the top of the Lighthouse! :0)

One of our final stops was the City Market.

Again, I wish we had something like this in my hometown!

I’m not kidding, this dude SNORED the ENTIRE trip. And LOUD, too. I wanted to hit him in the head several times. Hah!

For our last stop, we returned to the Bay of Fundy at high tide.

It’s not as easy to tell in pictures, but I definitely noticed a huge difference!

After returning to the ship, we changed for dinner which was Pirate Night!

DSC_1181 DSC_1184

Wrong kind of pirate, Jason….that’s a bandit!

DSC_1218

After dinner we bundled up (it was COLD), then made our way to Deck 10 for the Pirate Party.

DSC_1233 DSC_1251

The Pirate Party was fun as usual and I was surprised by the lack of people out on deck. I chalked it up to the fact that our ship wasn’t full and the weather outside was cold/windy/rainy.

Fireworks at sea!

As soon as the party was over, we high tailed it to Topsiders for the buffet. This buffet was moved inside of Topsiders because of the weather. I don’t like the Topsiders set up as much as the one out on deck but oh well. We stuffed our faces (again), then called it a night!

Up Next: our final At Sea Day! :0(

  1. The low/high tide thing is pretty cool!
I think they permanently moved the buffet into topsiders b/c that's where it was for us and we were having great weather. It was def. very cramped and crowded!
